WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY TRENDS
I don’t really like seeing weddings as a “trend”. To me, weddings are about capturing people, emotions and a fell of a day. However, I’m not a total fuddy-duddy and I do recognise that social media has influenced weddings in a really powerful way. From vogue influences to more nostalgic film photos, we as photographers are contending with it all these days. So I want to be sure that I understand exactly what you expect from me in terms of aesthetics, You’ve seen my previous work on socials and websites but here are a few examples of “trends” to help guide you along the way.
DIRECT FLASH
The flash is pointing directly at you and set to a burst mode. Imagine back in the days of Diana and the papparazzi - constant flashing, her running out of restaurants and hiding her face, that’s the kinda vibe. It looks great in the right circumstances. Typically throughout the day I do not use a flash and you’ll not know I’m taking photo. When I use DF you will absolutely know i’m there. It can also be problematic for anybody who suffers with epilepsy. I tend to do these sort of shots in the evening, Prosecco towers, running around drunk etc etc
SHUTTER DRAG
This one if only really used on the dancefloor, and typically with a 16mm lens which means I’m really up close and personal flashing it in your face as you do crazy dane moves. This is perfect for the dancefloor as it captures everybody in action. If you have ambient light, fairy lights or a great DJ/Bands with their own lighting then these will look epic.
MOTION BLUR
This one is usually when I’ve fucked up. But more recently it’s become a bit fashionable to have a few blurry photos chucked into your gallery. Again, similar to Diret flash, these are usually taken when there is a lot of movement, crossing roads, dancing, walking, but without flash. On a slow shutter setting so that just enough detail can be seen but it gives the feel of a fleeting moment.
DRONE PHOTOGRAPHY
Basically what it days on the tin. A different perspective. I can get different angles with the drone or reach places that aren’t always possible on land. Please be aware that drone photography isn’t always possible due to permissions, weather and accessibility. So please check with me, don’t assume it can be done.
LIFTING/THROWING SHOTS
Let me make this clear - if you as for this, you’re responsible. Not I :) drunk people plus lifting and throwing can sometimes equal injury and death. there, I said it. Have fun :)
